In the Bible, Jesus gave the commission to His Apostles and their successors the power to absolve sins for those who are contrite. Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained”. —John 20:21-23

Any Catholic conscious of having committed a serious or mortal sin is obliged to seek God’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, commonly referred to as Confession. This Sacrament is celebrated every Saturday afternoon from 4:00—4:45 PM in the church. In addition, other services are added throughout the year, particularly when major feast days (e.g. Christmas and Easter) are approaching. Of course, this aspect of God’s grace can be celebrated at any time by arrangement with one of the parish priests.

While the first experience of Reconciliation with God is Baptism, we celebrate the first sacramental confession prior to First Holy Communion. Children enrolled in our Religious Education Program or Elementary school are prepared for this sacrament as part of the preparation for First Holy Communion.
